How I lost over 150 lbs

I didn’t start my weight loss journey with balance or wisdom. I started with panic and quick fixes.
For years, I lived in the land of yo-yo diets. I did keto. I did Atkins. I did South Beach. If it had a name and promised fast results, I tried it. I’d cut out entire food groups, swear off carbs like they were the enemy, and white-knuckle my way through every “plan” thinking this one would finally fix everything.
Sometimes I’d go even more extreme and slide into starvation mode. I’d barely eat, the scale would drop quickly, and everyone would compliment the weight loss. What they didn’t see was the rebound. The weight always came back, and usually I’d gain even more than I’d lost. Every cycle left me heavier, more exhausted, and more frustrated with myself.
Eventually, I hit a point where I knew I couldn’t do it anymore. I didn’t need another diet. I needed to understand how food actually works and what my body truly needs to lose weight and keep it off.
That’s when I started working with a medical group of dietitians and nutritionists. Instead of chasing the next trend, we focused on something radical for me at the time:
Smaller, realistic portions
The right balance of foods
Feeling full and satisfied instead of deprived
I learned how to retrain myself to eat in a way that worked with my body, not against it. I finally had a plan that allowed:
Normal life
Normal foods
Flexibility for real situations like eating out, holidays, and busy weeks
No more “all or nothing.” No more starving then binging. Just consistency, structure, and enough freedom that I didn’t feel like I was constantly missing out.
We also added movement that made sense for my life instead of punishing workouts I dreaded. That combination of nutrition, portion awareness, and realistic exercise is what helped me lose 150 pounds and, more importantly, keep it off.
My journey didn’t start with perfection. It started with a long list of things that didn’t work, until I finally learned what my body actually needed: food that fuels me, a plan I can live with, and a mindset that doesn’t require me to start over every Monday.
That’s the foundation behind how I coach now, because I know exactly what it feels like to be stuck in that yo-yo cycle and finally get out of it.
